Nigerian singer Mayorkun has told his girlfriend that any child they have will face a DNA test, and that a prenuptial agreement is non-negotiable before marriage. He says she got upset, but he has not changed his mind.
Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, known as “Mayor of Lagos,” made the comments on a recent episode of the In My Opinion podcast.
“I told my girlfriend we’d have to do a prenup and DNA test when she gives me a child, just to be sure. She got upset. I have thought of doing the DNA test without telling her. If it is my child, no issues. If not, everybody will hear about it,” he said.
In the clip, Mayorkun framed both demands as protection, not a verdict on the woman in front of him. He said he had already warned her not to read the request as distrust.
“I hope you will not take it as maybe I don’t trust you. I would just like to have that peace of mind.”
He also admitted the conversation rarely lands well.
“I don’t think there’s one woman on this earth that will take it nicely.”
He compared the test to a prenup and treated both as things a man regrets skipping.
“Bro, if you don’t sign prenup, you will regret it, man.”
On whether love should be enough, he was blunt.
“You think that person that gave that man a bastard child doesn’t love him? Bro, that’s true. I can’t just give. It’s too much of a risk, man.”
He pointed to cases in which men learned late that children they raised were not biologically theirs, including a man who found out about two children when they were already 18. That kind of discovery, he said, is worse if the man is older and can no longer have children of his own.
“I’ve seen grown men break down online, bro.”
Mayorkun conceded that raising the subject is “probably the hardest part,” and that a secret test might spare a fight until the result is in. He also accepted that she could be furious if she found out.
“It’s really, really deep,” he said.
His position, as he put it, still stands:
“If you love me too… for my peace of mind.”
