Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has revealed that walking has become difficult for him and that parts of his body now swell without warning, even as he still hopes to recover.
He made the disclosure on Thursday during an emotional visit to ailing Ghanaian actor Emmanuel Armah in Accra. A video of the meeting has since circulated online. Edochie prayed for his colleague, offered financial support toward his care, and then spoke openly about his own condition while seated beside him.
“Sitting down here, I’m not very well myself. Walking is a problem for me now, but I still have hope that I will recover myself,” he said.
He added that the discomfort is not limited to his legs.
“Sometimes I get up, and parts of my body are swollen. After some time, it goes down again. Like my hand is swollen now.”
The moment turned more personal when Edochie shared a prayer he has been repeating.
“I just keep asking God, ‘You are the author of life. Whenever you feel it’s time for me to go, just take me, don’t let me bother the people who are around me. Just take me.’”
He did not name any specific diagnosis, and no medical details beyond his own description have been made public. His words came while he was trying to encourage Armah, who has been battling illness for nearly 11 years.
According to reports citing Armah’s wife, Stella Amina Armah, the problems began while he was working in the United States, where he developed high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol without knowing it at the time. He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and receiving daily massages. Edochie told him, “It is my belief that you will recover one day.”
The visit reportedly left the Nigerian actor visibly moved as he saw the state of his longtime colleague. Fans who have watched the clip have responded with concern, while Edochie himself has framed both struggles as matters he is leaving in God’s hands.
