A viral moment can introduce a creator to the world, but it takes strategy, discipline, and reinvention to remain relevant when the attention shifts. For Nigerian comedian and content creator Okojie Bobby Oseyi, popularly known as ThaEdoBoy, the difference between temporary fame and a lasting career comes down to one word: longevity.
The Edo-born entertainer has built a unique identity by combining football, comedy, and everyday Nigerian experiences to create content that resonates with a growing digital audience. A graduate of Statistics from the University of Benin, ThaEdoBoy represents a new wave of Nigerian creators who are transforming social media influence into sustainable entertainment brands.
His journey, however, has been shaped by more than viral content. Behind the humour and football banter is a creator who says studying the careers of established entertainers helped him understand the discipline required to survive in the entertainment industry.
ThaEdoBoy revealed that comedians and content creators such as Sydney Talker, Broda Shaggi, and Craze Clown influenced his approach to content creation, particularly the importance of consistency.
“A lot of comedians and creators really inspired me. The likes of Sydney Talker, Broda Shaggi and Craze Clown. Shout out to Sydney Talker who gave me some advice back when I was in 100 level at the University of Benin,” he said.
“The most important lesson I learnt from them is longevity. You need to be consistent and hardworking and never stop grinding. The day you stop, it’s the day your audience will move on.”
That mindset became stronger after his first financial breakthrough as a creator in 2019. With about 10,000 followers on Instagram at the time, ThaEdoBoy earned his first ₦20,000 from a music promotion campaign — a moment that changed how he viewed the possibilities of digital entertainment.
“I realized content creation could become a serious business when I made my first ₦20,000. It was for a music promo. I knew that as far as I was able to get ₦20,000 then, there’s a day I was going to get ₦2 million and even more,” he said.
A passionate football fan and devoted Cristiano Ronaldo supporter, ThaEdoBoy has also built a strong connection with audiences by tapping into the emotions, rivalries, and debates that make football one of Nigeria’s biggest cultural conversations.
However, he believes football comedy must remain entertaining rather than offensive.
“Football fans can be incredibly passionate, but I just find a way to create that balance. After all, it’s just football banter and nothing more,” he said.
Beyond entertainment, ThaEdoBoy is also focused on the business opportunities within the creator economy. He believes brands need to understand creators beyond their follower numbers and focus more on audience alignment.
“The biggest mistake brands make is that sometimes they don’t bother to check the kind of content a creator does or if he matches the audience they are looking for. Instead, they just look at the number of followers, and that’s very wrong,” he explained.
As more Nigerians pursue careers in digital entertainment, ThaEdoBoy believes the creators who will stand the test of time are those who build a clear identity.
“The only thing that separates them is some follow trends while others build a niche. If you follow trends, you might probably not last long, but if you build a niche, you would last long,” he said.
With ambitions extending into business and sports, ThaEdoBoy sees content creation as the beginning of a larger journey. His story is a reminder that behind every successful digital brand is not just creativity, but patience, consistency, and the ability to evolve.
