Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo’s widow, Anwuli Amakom, has touched hearts across the nation with a deeply moving tribute to her late husband, written in the funeral programme pamphlet following his burial.

The business executive poured out her love and pain in the emotional message addressed to her “Dadaa,” revealing the intimate nicknames and beautiful moments they shared during their marriage.

“You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…” Anwuli wrote, recalling how Alex would sing those words to her.

“For as long as I can remember, you sang those words to me. It was one of the countless little things that belonged to us… Because YOU are my sunshine. My answered prayer.”

She reminisced about the special names he lovingly called her — Pookstar, Asa Ikuku, and Nwa — describing them as more than nicknames but a safe space and constant reminder of their deep bond.

Anwuli described Alex as her favourite person whose presence lit up her world. She revealed he expressed his love through handwritten notes scattered around their home. Even after his passing, she still instinctively reaches out for him, only to remember he is no longer physically present.

The tribute highlighted their faith-filled journey together, praying and trusting God through life’s uncertainties. She particularly thanked him for standing by her during the painful loss of her mother, calling him her pillar of strength in that dark season.

Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, at age 40 after a courageous battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His death sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and his fans.

Anwuli’s heartfelt words have drawn widespread sympathy and admiration online, with many praising her strength and the beautiful love story she shared with the late actor. Reports during the burial also suggested she is expecting their child, adding another emotional layer to the family’s loss.
