Rising Nollywood actress and singer Osas Okonyon has stirred fresh conversations in the industry after revealing that connections and relationships often matter more than raw talent for success in Nollywood.

The multi-talented star, who is currently enjoying attention from her latest movie project ‘Evi’, opened up during an interview with Saturday Beats about the harsh realities she has encountered since entering the competitive film space.

“One of the biggest revelations for me is how relationship-driven the industry is. Talent is essential, but access, trust and consistency play huge roles in who gets seen and who gets opportunities.”

She acknowledged the tough odds stacked against creatives, adding:

“There’s also a level of self-sufficiency that isn’t always visible. There’s a deep commitment to storytelling, often against the odds, and believe me, the odds are stacked. That’s something I’ve come to respect even more now that I’m on the inside.”

Despite the buzz surrounding her role in ‘Evi’, where she showcased her skills in acting, singing, and songwriting, Okonyon refuses to treat the project as her peak moment. She sees it instead as a stepping stone to greater things.

“The attention ‘Evi’ is bringing is exciting, but I’m very intentional about not treating it as a peak moment. I see this more like a doorway.”

The actress expressed her desire to build a strong body of work rooted in intentional storytelling. She plans to align with directors, producers, and platforms that value quality African narratives capable of reaching global audiences while remaining true to her identity.

As a woman with multiple talents, Osas Okonyon aims to pour everything into her craft. She hopes to leave the industry and the world “empty” by fully expressing herself in all her capacities.
