Nollywood actor Ekenechukwu Nnamani, popularly known as 042 Swanky, has stirred conversations in the entertainment industry after declaring that nudity in African films should not be treated as a taboo. The actor made the bold statement during a recent interview, arguing that artistic demands sometimes require such scenes for realistic character interpretation.
Speaking with Potpourri, Nnamani acknowledged the strong moral values in African societies but maintained that filmmaking must prioritise believable storytelling.
“As an actor, I don’t think it’s the worst thing. Yes, we have high morals as Africans, but it’s a movie, and if that’s what it takes to interpret a story or scene best, then it is what it is.”
The rising actor, who gained attention through modelling before transitioning fully into acting, opened up about his journey into Nollywood. His passion for performance began in secondary school through drama activities and persisted even while he studied Business Administration at university. A modelling gig eventually led to his breakthrough when a producer spotted him and offered a role that demanded both his physique and acting skills.
Nnamani admitted feeling nervous at first but received encouragement from his modelling agent.
“That’s how I summoned courage, went on the movie set, played that role, and the director was very impressed.”
He now views acting as more challenging yet more fulfilling than modelling, requiring deep mental and physical preparation.
The actor expressed ambitions to feature in Hollywood productions and create impactful films that inspire global audiences.
“I want to do films where my roles would touch lives all over the world. I want people to walk to me and say things like, your role in that movie gave me hope.”
Nnamani is currently honing his craft through further studies while working towards producing major films. His comments on nudity have sparked debates online, with some supporting artistic freedom and others expressing concerns about cultural values in Nollywood content.
