The fans and family of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his fans have received renewed hope as the Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed May 28, 2026, to hear a suit seeking a fresh investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

The suit, filed by the Break the Silence Foundation, aims to compel the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police to reopen the probe into Mohbad’s death, which occurred on September 12, 2023.

Justice James Omotosho granted leave for the suit following an ex-parte application and has now ordered proper service of hearing notices on all respondents, including the Inspector-General of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command.

The development comes amid persistent public outcry and allegations of foul play and inadequate investigation by authorities since the singer’s controversial passing. Many Nigerians continue to demand transparency and accountability, believing the initial probe was not thorough enough.

The NGO is seeking an order of mandamus to force the police to perform their statutory duties and conduct a comprehensive reinvestigation. The case has kept Mohbad’s name in the headlines nearly three years after his death, with continuous calls for justice from fans, colleagues, and activists.

This latest court move is seen by many as a significant step toward uncovering the full truth behind the tragedy that shook the Nigerian music industry.
