Lagos Command Detains Officers Over Ijoba Lande Assault

The Lagos State Police Command has detained officers accused of assaulting popular actor and skit maker Ganiyu Morufu, widely known as Ijoba Lande, following public outrage over a viral video showing him with visible injuries.

The development was confirmed on Friday, February 6, 2026, in a statement shared on X by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, who said the officers involved have been identified and taken into custody for investigation.

According to the police, statements are currently being obtained from all parties connected to the incident, including the affected officers, the actor, and a friend who was with him at the time.

“The officers involved have been identified and brought before the command for investigation. At present, the officers, the complainant, and his friend are all giving their statements. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses,” Adebisi stated.

The police action follows a disturbing video that surfaced online showing Ijoba Lande seated in a vehicle with bleeding around his left eye and visible bruises. In the footage, the actor, speaking in Yoruba, repeatedly asked for water as people around him tried to calm him and advised that he report the incident at a police station.

A voice in the background of the video alleged that officers from the Area “J” Police Division were responsible for the assault, repeatedly naming the station and describing the act as unjust.

By the end of the clip, the group appeared to have arrived at a police facility, where the actor looked calmer as he prepared to make a formal complaint.

In a caption attached to the video, Ijoba Lande alleged that the officers also robbed him during the encounter.

“I returned from the UK six days ago and was attacked and beaten by police officers in Nigeria. They took my iPhone 16 Pro Max and my brother’s $1,200. I nearly lost my life,” the caption read.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that the case is being treated seriously and that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken if the officers are found culpable.

The incident has reignited conversations online about police conduct, accountability, and the treatment of citizens, particularly public figures, by law enforcement officers in Nigeria.
