Davido Backs Gov. Adeleke, Joins Accord Party

Afrobeats superstar Davido has officially stepped into Nigeria’s political space, announcing his decision to join the Accord Party, the same platform recently adopted by his uncle and Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the announcement via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, revealing plans to travel to Osogbo to formalise his membership.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my Accord Party membership card at Imole House, Osogbo,” Davido wrote.

His declaration comes weeks after Governor Adeleke defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, citing unresolved leadership crises at the national level.

Explaining his decision, the governor said the move was necessary to safeguard governance and sustain development in Osun State.

“I love PDP, but crisis made me leave for Accord Party,” Adeleke stated.

Following his defection, Governor Adeleke was screened and cleared by the Accord Party leadership, emerging as the party’s candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election. Political observers say the move has significantly boosted the party’s visibility and grassroots support across the state.

Davido’s alignment with the Accord Party has further drawn public attention, marking one of the most high-profile political affiliations by a Nigerian music star in recent years. His expected appearance in Osogbo this week to collect his membership card signals a clear show of support for his uncle’s political ambition ahead of the 2026 polls.

The development has sparked conversations online, blending entertainment, family loyalty, and politics, a mix that continues to keep Davido at the centre of national discourse.
