Nollywood actor Taye Arimoro has kicked against his indefinite suspension by the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and other top industry bodies, describing their official report as “inaccurate” and promising to challenge it legally.
The controversy stems from an alleged on-set altercation during the filming of Pieces of Love, where Arimoro and producer Peggy Ovire presented conflicting accounts of what transpired.
Arimoro claimed he was assaulted after attempting to leave the set once his scheduled call time elapsed. According to him, Ovire allegedly ordered her team to block his vehicle, which he said led to his “detention” and physical attack.
He is demanding N100 million in compensation from the actress-producer, dismissing her version of events as “grossly misleading”.
Ovire, however, insisted that Arimoro was the aggressor, a position later upheld by the industry’s disciplinary panels.
Following a joint investigation, the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP) declared Arimoro responsible for the escalation and sanctioned him accordingly.
The guilds said Arimoro must issue a public apology to Peggy Ovire and the film’s director, release a corrective video stating the verified sequence of events, and complete his remaining scenes under strictly supervised conditions.
Reacting to the ruling, Arimoro insisted that the guilds’ statement failed to reflect the truth.
“To be honest, the statement given doesn’t capture the facts of the matter in any way, shape, or form!” he wrote.
He added that his management and lawyers were already preparing a detailed response.
“My management and legal team are aware of this, and I will provide a comprehensive response tomorrow. My legal team is also proceeding with the necessary action to address these unfounded claims”, he said.
As the dispute intensifies, fans and industry observers await further updates from both sides.
