Media personality and new mom, Toke Makinwa, has sparked conversation online after revealing that she does not bathe her newborn daughter, Yaya, every day.
In a candid video message shared on Friday, the media entrepreneur addressed fellow new mothers, explaining that her approach is rooted in concern for her baby’s delicate skin.
According to her, daily baths can strip a newborn’s skin of essential moisture.
“I know I’m a new mom, and I’m literally just learning as I go, but I really think excessive showering causes skin problems in babies”, she said.
She noted that babies, having spent nine months in the womb, are not dirty and therefore do not require daily baths.
“Babies are not dirty. They’ve been inside the womb for nine months, and inside your womb is not dirty”, she added.
Toke admitted that she once judged her sister for adopting the same bathing routine with her niece, but changed her mind after seeing the baby’s healthy skin.
As a first-time mother, she said she has since embraced the learning curve and chosen what she believes works best for her daughter.
The lifestyle influencer revealed that she plans to introduce daily bathing gradually, but only when baby Yaya is around four to six months old. Until then, she is sticking to a gentler skincare approach.
Her comments have since triggered mixed reactions across social media, with some mothers agreeing with her method and others insisting on traditional daily baths.
