Nollywood icon Funke Akindele has once again proven her mastery of showmanship, sending social media into a frenzy after stepping out with an unusually curvy figure, complete with exaggerated hips and a fuller backside that had fans convinced she secretly underwent cosmetic surgery.
For days, the clips dominated timelines. In one viral video, the actress strutted confidently with a noticeably enhanced silhouette, prompting wild speculation that she had joined the list of celebrities opting for body enhancements. But the transformation was all acting.
Akindele later revealed that the new curves are part of her portrayal of Adetutu Fernandez, a character in her upcoming movie Behind The Scenes.
Appearing in a chic outfit with her “new body” on display, she introduced herself in character, saying:
“Hello, beautiful people. My name is Adetutu Fernandez. Do you love my body? I will spend anything to be beautiful. I spent a fortune to get my body done.”
She described Adetutu as a woman with “the body of a goddess”, leaning fully into the persona and leaving fans entertained.
Even after the reveal, Akindele continued to play along. In another promotional post, she wrote:
“Detutu Fernandez sure got the body of a goddess. Clock it if you’re loving her body.”
As part of the build-up to the film’s release, Akindele unveiled a loaded cast lineup: Scarlet Gomez, Wandi and Handi, Uche Montana, Tobi Bakare, Ini Dima, Mr Macaroni, Uzor Arukwe, Ibrahim Chatta, and Iyabo Ojo, using a stylish themed runway clip.
But nothing stole the spotlight quite like the comical butt, which has since sparked light-hearted reactions from her Nollywood colleagues.
Actor Deyemi Okanlawon joked, “This one na Akowonjo BBL!” @MoBimpe added:
“Mama! Hipsy funky.” @BisolaAiyeola chimed in, “Aunty Funke, these hips are speaking volumes.” @BlessingObasi wrote, “Hips na water.” @BrodaShaggi joined the fun, saying, “Fresh out of booty from Doctor Shaggi and Nurse Kiekie. Please tag us, ma’am, so people can patronise us. Best BBL in Lagos.” And @dancerJanemena added, “This hip is so hipsy, momma.”
With Behind The Scenes already gaining attention before its official release, Akindele’s humorous, theatrical approach to promotion is proving to be another masterstroke, turning a fake butt into one of the week’s biggest talking points.
