Ire, the widow of late Afrofuji singer Afeez Adesina, known as Destiny Boy, has marked her birthday with a raw message that has left many fans emotional.
In a post shared as she celebrates the day, she wrote:
“Happy birthday to me. A widow, a single mum, and a woman who has had to find strength even on days she felt broken. Life hasn’t been easy, but God has kept me. May this new chapter bring healing, peace, financial blessings and beautiful reasons to smile. My son and I deserve happiness too.”
The message is her first public birthday reflection since Destiny Boy’s sudden death on January 18, 2026. She has been raising their young son alone in the months that followed.
Destiny Boy, who rose to prominence with a Fuji cover of Davido’s “If” in 2019, died at about 22. His passing triggered intense public scrutiny, with videos of his body and calls for an autopsy circulating online. Family members initially said he had lived with a long-term illness that caused seizures, and that they had sought both medical and traditional treatment. Ogun State Police later moved the case to the homicide section for investigation.
An autopsy report eventually stated that toxicology results showed harmful levels of tramadol and its metabolites, as well as methamphetamine. The cause of death was given as aspiration pneumonitis resulting from the ingestion of these toxic substances.
Ire and Destiny Boy welcomed their son in November 2024, months after he proposed to her in March of that year. She has previously shared messages about missing him and raising their child with his memory present, including a post on what would have been his birthday and a Children’s Day note to their son.
