“I Didn’t Know We Had Money Till I Was 21!” — Sharon Adeleke Confesses

Davido’s sister, Sharon Adeleke, also known as Sharon Ademefun, says she had no real idea how wealthy her family was until she moved to Nigeria at about 21, and that her father kept the children on just enough.

She made the remarks on Fashion Roundtable with Gbemi Ola, in an episode uploaded on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Sharon is a daughter of businessman Adedeji Adeleke and runs the fashion brand Body Politix.

“I didn’t even know we had money till I was like 21, to be honest with you. That’s when I moved to Nigeria. I’ve lived a very normal life,” she said.

She recounted starting jobs early.

“Outside of my schools, I’ve always worked. I’ve always had a job. Even when I was in high school, because I wanted £5 a week, I used to clean the changing rooms. I’ve always worked because my dad will give you just enough. He never let us know.”

Holidays were comfortable, she said, but not the private-jet version people now attach to the Adeleke name. The family went on cruises and to Disney. Her father queued like everyone else.

“When I take my kids to Disney now, we’re going Disney VIP because I’m not queuing for anybody. My dad will queue.”

They had nice rooms and a nice house, she added, “but it was not something that I felt like, oh my gosh, you were rich. I never grew up that.”

The ordinary life continued into college.

“Up until my senior year of college, I was a babysitter, professional babysitter.”

She said about five years of looking after children is why she later opened a crèche. It was only after she arrived in Nigeria, she said, that people started treating the family name as proof of money.

“My dad is just a very chill person.”

She joked that the quiet act has slipped a little with the next generation. To her own children, she said, he now tells them to own it.

“Daddy, 30 has entered your spirit.”

Sharon also argued that growing up with too much can dull ambition. She said she would probably not have been a good business person with the cushion, because “sometimes having too much can also make you a bit lazy. You would want to hire someone to do the job.” She still insisted that does not mean she has failed at business.
