Nollywood actress Irewole Olaniyan has denied claims that she spent three years in an affair with a married man, after his wife, Mary Edris, took the allegation public and later mocked her response.
Mary Edris alleged in a viral, now-deleted post that actress Irewole Olaniyan had an affair with her husband for three years. She claimed she confronted Irewole privately, who said she didn’t know he was married, insulted him, and said she’d blocked him, but the affair continued. Mary also alleged her husband funded Irewole’s movies, trips, and luxury lifestyle, including a South Africa trip in September 2024. She said Irewole lives near her store and kept contacting him for money even after he ended it, calling her a home wrecker.

Irewole answered on her social media page on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after the story had already run for more than a day. She admitted there had been something between them, but only a few dates, and said she stopped once she learned he was married.
“I am not with this man, and I haven’t been with him since I found out he was married,” she wrote.
She said one restaurant filmed a date and posted the video, and that she had no problem with it because she was not hiding and did not know he had a wife at the time.
“I believe Maryam found out about this restaurant date a year later, and I’m glad she did, because I had left her husband even before she reached out to me, and I let her know that when she did,” she added.
She said she told Mary the man was not her type, apologised, and that Mary accepted the apology, even though Mary never agreed that they had not officially dated. From there, Irewole said, the man would not stop reaching out. She also accused Mary of coming into her DMs with threats to tarnish her public image, and of reading ordinary outings with her actual partner as proof she was still with married men.
“There’s no hard work I’m showing her because I don’t want her husband, and I don’t need him. I genuinely didn’t know he was married, and I’d never even gone on a date with him if I knew,” she wrote.
Mary did not accept the clarification. Reacting to the statement, she taunted the actress with the line, “Debunking left and right.”
