Nollywood actor Emeka Okoye has broken his silence on the death of his colleague Chijioke Temidayo Nwokafor, popularly known as Cjay, blaming Nigeria’s healthcare system for the loss.
In a tribute posted on Instagram, Okoye described the death as devastating, noting that Cjay passed at a point in his career when things were finally looking up. He alleged that an oxygen shortage at the hospital contributed directly to the actor’s death.
“So sorry that the our health system failed us again. How can there not be enough oxygen in hospitals in this present year 2026?” he wrote.
Okoye also recalled his own harrowing experience with the same system, describing a night he spent bleeding from gunshot wounds on a hospital floor with no bed space available. He said prayer and divine protection were all that saved him.
Beyond the accusations, he celebrated the man he knew personally. He revealed that Cjay was a talented baker who gave generously to others, a side of him largely unknown to the public.
“I’m sure a lot of people don’t know you are a fantastic baker. Even as a baker, you used it judiciously in philanthropism, without blinking an eye,” he wrote.
He also praised colleagues who fought to save Cjay’s life in his final hours and closed with a simple farewell:
“Rest in the bosom of your creator. Good night Ceejay. A bright star is gone.”
