Sharon Faqua, wife of Nollywood actor Shawn Faqua, has revealed how her husband’s unusual honesty and intense love initially unsettled her during their courtship.
Speaking on the “At His Right Hand” podcast hosted by Olive Emodi, Sharon shared the fears and emotional baggage she carried into the relationship after past experiences.
She recalled that Shawn set clear boundaries from the start.
“When I first started dating him, he was like, we can’t have sex before marriage. I said no problem. And then he says, oh, you also can’t come to my house, because if you come to my house, we’ll be alone. I’m like, hey, I know this guy is hiding something.”
One particular incident deepened her suspicions. Sharon was due in Lagos for an appointment when her flight arrived late and her hotel was fully booked. She asked if she could stay at his place temporarily. Shawn refused at first, saying he needed to “ask the spirit.”
“I told my friends that forget this thing, this guy is not honest. I know what I’m saying,” she admitted.
Even after he eventually agreed following prayers, she still believed he had moved another woman out of the house. When she stayed over, Shawn slept in the sitting room while she used the bedroom.
“That was just part of what I brought from the past, that was part of the baggages that I brought. His honesty was a problem for me,” Sharon said.
She also confessed that the depth of his care felt overwhelming.
“I think the way he loved me was also too much for me.”
Though she never told him she loved handwritten notes, Shawn consistently included them with every gift he sent.
Sharon’s openness highlights how previous heartbreaks can make genuine love feel unfamiliar or even suspicious. The couple, who later married in a unique train wedding in October 2025, have been sharing their journey of healing, forgiveness and building a faith-centered marriage.
