“I Don’t Allow Smoking, Nakedness in Music Videos” — Spyro

Who Has Bewitched Us? — Spyro Slams Nigerians for Ignoring Kidnapped Girls Amid VDM–Jollof Fight

Popular Nigerian singer Spyro has made his stance clear on content standards in the music industry, revealing he maintains strict personal rules against smoking, nudity, and unclean themes in any project he is involved with.

In a recent interview on TVC, the hitmaker behind songs like “Who Is Your Guy” opened up about the non-negotiable guidelines that shape his collaborations and creative output.

“You can’t be in a video with me and you’re smoking. That can’t happen. You can’t be in a video with me and you’re naked. That won’t happen. I have rules and regulations to working with people.”

He also explained his refusal to feature on songs that do not align with his values.

“I can’t be on a song that is not clean, to start with.”

Spyro shared an example involving his collaboration with rising star Shoday on the track “Sweet.” He revealed he reached out to Shoday about the promotion style of the song and encouraged him to embrace Christianity. According to Spyro, Shoday responded that each should focus on their own path.

“When I did ‘Sweet’ with Shoday, Shoday was promoting it in some funny kind of way, and I called him. I said, ‘Shoday, give your life to Christ.’ And he said I should continue my own while he faces his.”

The artist described his presence in the music industry as part of a larger spiritual mission, expressing hope that more entertainers will eventually align with Christian beliefs.

“Even if he’s not with Christ, he’s coming to Christ. Until every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. That’s why I’m in this industry. It’s a gradual process.”

His comments have sparked discussions online about morality, artistic freedom, and the role of faith in mainstream entertainment. While some praised his principled approach, others questioned whether such strict standards limit creative expression in a competitive industry.

Spyro’s position reflects his journey as one of the more openly faith-driven acts in Nigeria’s secular music scene.
