Angela Okorie Burns Alexx Ekubo Burial Outfit After Warning

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has stirred massive reactions after revealing she burned the outfit she wore to the burial of her late colleague Alexx Ekubo, citing spiritual advice from her godmother.

The burial of the popular actor took place on June 18, 2026, at his family compound in Arochukwu, Abia State, following a funeral service at Mary Slessor School Field, Amanagwu Village. Many celebrities attended to pay their last respects.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, Angela was seen setting the dress on fire. She explained her reason in the caption:

“This is the outfit I wore to Alex’s burial, my Godmother said it is not good to have the cloth you wore to a burial around you, you burn them. So family and friends take note, I felt I should share this information. May the Lord keep and bless us with long life. Amen.”

The actress described the act as following traditional spiritual guidance to avoid keeping items associated with death close to oneself. Many Nigerians are familiar with similar cultural or spiritual beliefs about not retaining funeral clothes.

Her post has triggered divided reactions online. While some supported the spiritual practice, many others criticised the decision to publicise the act, questioning why she felt the need to record and post the burning instead of doing it privately. Some even suggested she should also burn the wig, shoes, and accessories worn that day.

This comes shortly after the entertainment industry mourned the passing of Alexx Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, from advanced kidney cancer at the age of 40. His death shocked colleagues and fans, leading to an outpouring of tributes during the service of songs, wake-keep, and burial.
