“I Didn’t Mean to Tarnish Lagos” — Illbliss Breaks Silence on Ethnic Post

Popular Nigerian rapper Illbliss has tendered a public apology after his heated tweet claiming Igbos “own” all the lands in Lagos sparked massive backlash and ethnic tensions online.

The controversy began when Illbliss praised the immense commercial contributions of Igbos to Lagos economy and real estate development. When some users responded with hostile remarks telling Igbos to return to their “erosion-filled” lands, the rapper fired back angrily.

In his controversial reply, Illbliss wrote:

“we own your lands Fool! we bought everywhere! and renting it back to you… you will pay Rent forever in this city bloody scavenger!”

The post drew widespread condemnation for its tone and perceived arrogance, with many accusing him of fanning ethnic division in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

In a follow-up statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the veteran rapper expressed regret and clarified his intentions.

“A few days ago I typed a tweet that stated that over the years, the Igbos had contributed commercially to the incredible growth in Lagos, alongside other tribes… I was upset and responded rather harshly… I apologize if you found my comments brash. It wasn’t intended to tarnish Lagos, a state that has accommodated us all and supported our art, our business and our growth for many years.”

He described Lagos as home and pledged continued respect for the city:

“We live here and it’s our home and we will always treat it as such.”

The apology comes after days of intense online debate, with many commending him for owning up to his words while others continue to criticise the initial outburst.

Illbliss, known for his thoughtful lyrics and business acumen, has built a successful career that spans music, entertainment, and entrepreneurship.
