Nollywood Stars Slam Daddy Freeze Over Comments on Alexx Ekubo Service

Nollywood actors have fiercely condemned controversial media personality Daddy Freeze after he criticised gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and the overall atmosphere at the late Alexx Ekubo’s Service of Songs, with many accusing him of insensitivity and making the solemn occasion about himself.

Daddy Freeze had walked out during Mercy Chinwo’s energetic worship session, claiming she turned the event into a “concert” and questioning why hymns were not played instead.

His remarks triggered strong reactions from colleagues who attended the emotional tribute.

Actor Mofe Duncan took Daddy Freeze to task in a detailed Instagram post, reminding him of the true purpose of the gathering. He began by saying:

“With all due respect, Sir… the night wasn’t about you or anyone else but ALEXX.”

He clarified several key points:

• It was NOT a FUNERAL, but a NIGHT OF TRIBUTES & A SERVICE OF SONGS.

• Hymns were actually sung, including “Blessed Assurance,” during which he personally cried.

• The family and inner circle repeatedly emphasised that Alexx loved worship, so a “concert” of worship was exactly what he would have wanted.

• Daddy Freeze lacked the moral ground to criticise because he ignored the all-white dress code.

Mofe concluded powerfully:

“May people not walk out on your own night of tributes. This last point is what destroyed my will to resist the urge to ignore your actions…”

Kunle Remi also reacted, quoting Ecclesiastes 3:7 (“a time to keep silence, and a time to speak”), which many interpreted as a subtle call for Daddy Freeze to stay quiet on the matter.

Other industry voices echoed similar sentiments, defending Mercy Chinwo’s spirit-filled performance as appropriate and comforting for mourners celebrating Alexx’s life.

Daddy Freeze had earlier apologised for wearing black but maintained that the service should have been more subdued. However, his comments have been widely viewed as disrespectful to Alexx’s memory, his family, and the ministers who offered worship during the difficult time.
