“Unnecessary!” — Yul Edochie Slams Alexx Ekubo for Hiding His Marriage

Controversial actor Yul Edochie has stirred fresh emotions online after weighing in on the late Alexx Ekubo’s private marriage, advising public figures to stop hiding their personal lives despite public scrutiny.

In a strongly worded response to a post mourning Alexx Ekubo, Yul declared that the late actor made a mistake by keeping his marriage away from the public eye. He said:

“He shouldn’t have hidden anything from anyone. It wasn’t necessary.”

He quoted a post by Nasboi which read:

“Alex Ekubo kept his marriage away from the vulture internet. Now that he’s gone, blogs are already digging up and posting his wife. But some of you are the ones that called him gay. These blogs are vampires. The only crime is being a public figure.”

Yul went further with his philosophy on living publicly:

“People must learn to stop worrying about what people say. No matter what you do in life people must talk. So leave them to talk. Leave blogs to blog. To be great in life you must never make yourself small for any one or any reason. Give them things to talk about while you ignore them and enjoy your life.”

The statement has sparked mixed reactions, with some agreeing that hiding one’s life rarely protects anyone, while others argued that everyone deserves privacy regardless of their celebrity status. Some netizens also pointed out the irony given Yul’s own very public marital controversies.

Alexx Ekubo passed away after a private battle with metastatic kidney cancer. His death has triggered widespread tributes across Nollywood, with many reflecting on how he lived a relatively low-key personal life compared to many of his colleagues.
