The father of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has finally broken his silence, delivering a heartbreaking tribute that has left the industry and fans in tears as the family continues to grieve the painful loss of their beloved son.
At the emotional Service of Songs held in Lagos, Mazi Alex Ekubo, the aged father of the deceased actor, could not personally read his tribute due to overwhelming grief. One of Alexx’s brothers delivered the message on his behalf before a solemn gathering of family, friends, and colleagues.
In the deeply moving tribute, the elderly father recalled the devastating moment he received news of his son’s passing, describing it as an unimaginable pain no parent should ever endure.
“The day I received the news of your passing was the darkest day of my life. I never imagined I would live to write a tribute to my son.”
Mazi Ekubo also celebrated the joy and light his son, fondly called Ikenna, brought into the family.
“Ikenna, you were a precious gift from God that brought happiness and joy to the family. Your smile lit up the room.”
Alexx Ekubo passed away in May 2026 at the age of 40 after a private battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer. His death sent shockwaves across the Nollywood industry, with many colleagues only learning of his illness after his demise.
The Service of Songs featured emotional tributes from family members, including Alexx’s sister-in-law, who spoke glowingly about his marriage to his widow, Anwuli, describing him as intentional, respectful, and deeply committed.
