“I Don’t Chase Gigs Like Burna” – Shatta Wale Brags About $1M Bookings

Controversial Ghanaian dancehall superstar Shatta Wale has stirred massive reactions after boldly declaring that he no longer chases international performances like Nigerian superstars Burna Boy and Davido because he earns a staggering $1 million per show right at home in Ghana.

The self-acclaimed “Dancehall King” made the revelation while explaining how Ghana played the biggest role in building his wealth and career success. According to him, strong local appreciation, respect from political leaders, ministers, event organisers, and fans have made staying home far more lucrative than travelling abroad. Shatta Wale said:

“I don’t know why people travel all over the world to look for whatever. I’ve always seen myself as an international star that just needs work. I didn’t get rich anywhere, I got rich in Ghana. The respect I have from political parties, ministers, and organizers is massive.”

He added that the respect and treatment he receives in his country is comparable to what global icons like Jay-Z and Beyoncé enjoy elsewhere.

“Anybody that calls me in Ghana gives me the respect they’ll give to Jay Z and Beyoncé.”

The artiste revealed that Ghanaian promoters invest heavily in his shows and ensure they are professionally executed, allowing him to live comfortably for over a decade.

“Anything I need for my shows are done properly.”

He contrasted this with some overseas offers, particularly from London, where promoters reportedly offer between £20,000 and £30,000, which he often turns down because they do not match his Ghana earnings.

Shatta Wale emphasised that he has always seen himself as an international star but believes he can command superstar fees without leaving Ghana, thanks to the country’s love and support for entertainment and the opportunities it provides.

The claims have triggered heated debates online, with many Nigerians and Ghanaians questioning the realism of earning $1 million per show in Ghana’s economy, while others hail him for prioritising homegrown success and knowing his worth. Some critics accused him of exaggerating, while supporters praised his confidence and loyalty to his roots.
