“I Give Myself Any Role I Want!” — Uche Jombo

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Uche Jombo has revealed that her transition into film production has given her full creative control, allowing her to assign herself any role she desires instead of waiting for opportunities from others.

The veteran star, who has been active in the industry for nearly three decades, shared her insights in an interview with Potpourri. She emphasised the empowerment that comes with being both an actress and a producer.

“I give myself roles. Any role I want to play, I’ll give it to myself. That’s the power of being a producer.”

She encouraged fellow filmmakers to tell authentic stories.

“I wish I knew, actually, but I always say to my fellow filmmakers, tell your story. I think if we continue telling stories that are authentically ours, we are moving in the right direction. That’s just it, tell our stories.”

Uche Jombo reflected on the demands of a long career in Nollywood, noting that passion remains her driving force despite the stress.

“I love what I do; it’s stressful sometimes, but it’s the love, the passion that keeps me going. Once in a while, I sit down and ask myself how I want to proceed to the next phase of my career. It happens when you have been here for almost 30 years. I’ve been doing this since I was 17.”

The actress, who began her journey at age 17, has built a reputation as a versatile talent capable of wearing multiple hats — acting, producing, and directing. Her comments highlight a growing trend among Nollywood professionals who take charge of their careers by moving behind the camera to create opportunities rather than depending solely on casting calls.
