Nigerian afro-house singer Niniola Apata is mourning the loss of her husband, Michael Ndika, whom she announced passed away on Wednesday.
The Grammy-nominated artist shared the devastating news through a series of emotional posts on her Instagram story in the early hours of the day. Each post featured photos of the couple together.
“God took him,” she wrote in her first post.
“God took my husband ..,” she added in a second.
In a third, she expressed raw pain: “God took him…. 13 years. 13 fucking years.”
Michael Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform dedicated to afro-house and contemporary African music. The couple had maintained a very private relationship, with Niniola rarely sharing details of her personal life on social media.
The circumstances surrounding Michael’s death have not been disclosed publicly.
Fans and colleagues have begun flooding social media with messages of condolence and support for the singer during this difficult time. The loss marks a painful chapter for the artist who has always kept her marriage shielded from the public eye.
