Nollywood actress Lizzy Gold has ignited heated debates online after declaring that men who want respect from their wives should marry women they are financially richer than.
Speaking during a recent discussion on a movie set, the actress shared her strong views on financial dynamics in marriage.
“As a man, if you want to earn respect from a woman, marry someone you’re richer than. If you marry someone richer than you, you’re on your own. She will never respect you.”
She also spoke from a personal perspective, revealing her own preference in choosing a partner.
“As for me, I will marry a man who is far richer than me. Even if you marry a woman that is richer than you and she respects you, after sometimes the woman will lose respect for you and you won’t be able to control her again.”
Lizzy Gold advised men to be realistic with their financial status when choosing partners.
“Every man should also have a spec. Your spec should be according to your pocket. You can’t be earning 300 thousand and going for a woman that is earning 500 thousand.”
Her comments have triggered massive reactions, with many accusing her of promoting materialistic values in marriage, while others argue she is simply stating a hard societal reality. The post has sparked conversations about gender roles, respect, love, and financial independence in modern relationships.
