Police Are Killing Innocent Nigerians! – I Go Die Begs IGP for Urgent Reforms

Popular Nigerian comedian and social commentator Francis Agoda, better known as I Go Dye, has written a passionate open letter to the Inspector General of Police, urging immediate reforms and accountability in the Nigeria Police Force following the recent killing of a young boy in Warri.

In the strongly worded letter published, I Go Dye expressed deep sorrow over recurring incidents of police brutality that continue to damage public trust in law enforcement across the country.

“I write with a heavy heart over the recent killing of a young boy in Warri, and the continued reports of police brutality across Nigeria. These incidents are painful reminders of a growing crisis that has deeply destroyed public confidence in the Nigerian Police Force.”

He highlighted the daily fear and frustration many Nigerians experience when interacting with police officers.

“Today, many Nigerians live with frustration and fear in their daily encounters with law enforcement. Instead of protection, they often experience harassment, intimidation, and, in tragic cases, loss of innocent lives.”

I Go Dye warned that without swift and transparent action, such incidents risk triggering fresh public unrest similar to the End SARS protests. He demanded that officers found guilty of unlawful killings or abuse must not only face internal discipline but also full criminal prosecution.

“There must be swift, public, and transparent justice. Any officer found responsible for unlawful killings or abuse must face the full weight of the law. Not internal discipline alone, but criminal accountability that sends a clear message: that no one is above the law.”

The Delta State-born entertainer called on the IGP to implement meaningful reforms, including better training for officers, improved welfare packages, and a genuine shift toward community policing rooted in mutual respect and trust. He stressed that Nigeria urgently needs “a police force that restores hope, not fear.”

I Go Dye, a veteran comedian with over two decades in the industry, has often used his platform to address social issues beyond entertainment. His latest intervention is driven by the broad daylight extrajudicial killing of a young man, Mene Ogidi, by a Delta State police officer. This action highlights ongoing concerns regarding police accountability following previous nationwide protests.
