“Sorry, I Was Uninformed!” Victoria Begs After FGM Praise Backlash

Veteran Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has issued a public apology after facing heavy backlash for her earlier comments praising female circumcision during an Instagram live session with media personality Daddy Freeze. The actress admitted she spoke without full understanding of the serious harm caused by female genital mutilation (FGM) and promised to do better moving forward.

Many viewers interpreted her position as support for the practice. Her remarks quickly drew criticism online as they appeared to downplay a tradition widely condemned for its physical and psychological damage to women and girls.

Responding directly in a new video posted on Daddy Freeze’s Instagram page, Victoria offered a heartfelt apology.

“A few weeks ago, on a talk show with Daddy Freeze, we were talking about issues like we always do, and I was just mentioning the root cause of certain issues… That’s where the FGM thing came up. Our ancestors thought that female circumcision would control the urges of women; unfortunately, I didn’t know the gravity of what it is in most places. FGM is bad.”

She revealed that feedback from close contacts and professionals opened her eyes.

“A midwife called me to explain this, and now I understand. It is nothing like what I went through; I never knew they stitched and thought it was just the basics.”

Victoria also shared a painful account from her prophetess.

“Even my prophetess in church, who is like my mother, told me she was in the hospital for a week over her episode, and she was only 15.”

The actress expressed genuine regret for how her words landed.

“For that to have happened to her and to everybody out there, I am sorry if my argument and comment came across as uninformed. Yes, I was totally uninformed about this FGM thing; now I am informed. So, now I am going to do better.”

Victoria’s shift from personal reflection to clear acknowledgment that modern FGM practices differ sharply from her own childhood experience has been noted by many who initially dragged her online.

The veteran actress, known for her resilience through personal challenges including a difficult past marriage, has often used platforms to speak openly. This latest episode shows her willingness to listen, learn, and correct course publicly when faced with new information.
