Nollywood and music superstar Peter Okoye, famously known as Mr P of the legendary duo P-Square, has fired back at online critics who slammed his decision to officially change his birthday celebration from November 18 to November 30. The singer declared the move a personal decision and mocked the outrage as misplaced energy in a country facing far bigger problems.
In an earlier post, he posted his decision to change his birth date, saying:
“I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day. My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision.”
He then turned the heat on his critics with characteristic wit.
“You all are angry as if I cancelled Christmas. It’s my birthday date I moved… not your own, why does it pain you?”
He drew a sharp biblical comparison to drive his point home:
“Even Jesus Christ December 25th date, people still debate it. Why cry more than the bereaved? Only in Nigeria.”
The 45-year-old entertainer expressed disbelief at the scale of the backlash.
“Funny how my birthday date shift is causing more pain than Nigeria’s real problems.”
He ended on a defiant note, reminding critics that success cannot be touched by insults:
“Insult doesn’t reduce success. Who has made it, has already made it! Know that and know peace.”
Many questioned the timing and motive of the date change, especially given the long-running public tensions between Peter and his twin brother Paul (Rudeboy). The twin brothers, who rose to global fame as P-Square in the 2000s and early 2010s, have endured multiple public fallouts over management, royalties, and creative differences, including a 2017 disbandment and a rocky 2021 reunion.
