Amuneke Exposes Party Officials’ Bribe Offer to Kill Anti-Govt Skits

Comedian Kevin Chinedu, the sharp-tongued witty creator behind the viral satirical character Governor Amuneke, has dropped a bombshell revelation that is rocking Nigeria’s entertainment and political circles. In a reflective interview on ARISEtv’s Arise 360 programme, Chinedu disclosed that officials from a major political party offered him huge sums in dollars to tone down or completely alter his stinging anti-government skits.

The approach came at one of the most vulnerable moments in his life — shortly after his wife underwent a Caesarean section and the family was battling heavy financial pressure.

“They said they were going to change my life, that I’m earning crumbs, you know, give me dollars. They mentioned that my colleagues are in the game and all of that.”

The officials even tried to lure him to Abuja with promises of life-changing money.

“I had a lot of bills on my head and I just heard come, come to Abuja, let’s change your life. Dollars upon dollars.”

Despite the tempting offer and the timing, Chinedu stood firm.

“I looked at it, I said, no, I am who I am. I’ve been here for a long time, and I’ve never been in any illegal thing, and I’ve never been somewhere, you know, I’m doing something because I’m being influenced, because of money. If I want to do it, it should be something I’m doing because I want to do it.”

He refused to name the specific party, jokingly referring to it only as “Amuneke’s party” and warning viewers, “Don’t mention names, trust me, don’t mention names.”

Chinedu also revealed that some of his close friends with strong principles were similarly approached and turned down the bribe.

“I don’t have friends that are easily overwhelmed with money. I have people who have principles because they have, you know, approached them, they themselves. So, we always have that conversation.”

The disclosure has ignited fierce online reactions, with many hailing the comedian for his integrity while others question how widespread such attempts to silence satirical voices have become in Nigeria’s political landscape. Known for using humour to educate the electorates, Governor Amuneke’s skits have gained massive followership for their fearless take on leadership dishonesty and governance issues.

Chinedu’s principled stand sends a powerful message at a time when content creators and entertainers face increasing pressure to soften their criticism or to change their stance on politics.
