“Love Is Transactional!” – Omawunmi Exposes Modern Dating

Nigerian singer Omawunmi has ignited a firestorm with her no-holds-barred take on love and relationships, declaring that romance has always come with strings attached and it’s just dressed up differently today. The hitmaker made the explosive comments during a Pulse podcast appearance, and the clip shared online is already exploding across social media.

Omawunmi pushed back hard against the popular narrative that today’s relationships are uniquely transactional. She reminded listeners that women have always had “long throat” but the currency has simply upgraded.

“We women have had long throat since the beginning of time, you know, but our transactional was different because if it was all those like secondary school to uni days of holding hands or crushing on a girl or a boy, you know, you just stay there, buy them ice cream and popcorn. But now, it’s now iPhone.”

She refused to let the word “transactional” carry its usual negative weight.

“There’s always been some level of transaction. So when you use the word transactional, you make it like it’s so strong a word.”

Instead, she framed it as healthy energy-matching in a relationship.

“If I’m with a man that showers gifts on me… I always try to match that energy.”

The singer called out the one-sided perception many hold.

“Most people don’t see the women matching the energy. They just see the women only collecting.”

She also touched on why some men overdo it early on.

“Men go overboard sometimes because some men like shiny objects. And they’re not the only one so everybody is struggling to get that shiny object.”

She concluded with a strong admonition for consistency:

“When you finish getting it, all the paparazzi that you were doing before, you will tone it down. No, you have to keep up the energy.”

The candid remarks have split listeners. It taps straight into Nigeria’s heated debates on modern dating, where money, status, and effort often clash with expectations of unconditional affection.
