How Skits Helped Me Break Into Nollywood – Real Soso

Content creator and actress Sophia Chisom, popularly known as Real Soso, has revealed that her decision to start making skits was a deliberate strategy to gain visibility and secure a place in Nollywood. In an exclusive interview with Anjola Dawodu published by Punch, the rising star explained how she used short-form content as a stepping stone into the mainstream film industry rather than treating it as an end goal.

Chisom made it clear that acting had always been her ultimate dream.

“I always wanted to be an actor; I just needed a way to get into the entertainment space so that producers and directors would discover me. That was why I went into skit-making.”

At the time, her focus was strategic.

“It wasn’t just about creating content for fun; it was about visibility. I understood that if people could see me consistently, it would increase my chances of being noticed. So, I treated it as a stepping stone rather than the final destination.”

Before fully committing to skits, she began by posting make-up-free pictures online, which helped her gain initial attention. From there, she transitioned into creating comedy skits, including the memorable character “Soso the pure water seller,” which became one of her early breakthroughs. She eventually decided it was time to move fully into acting roles.

The actress noted that her online audience proved to be an advantage when she entered the movie industry.

“When I moved into the movie industry, I didn’t come in as someone completely unknown. I already had an audience, so I wasn’t starting from scratch.”

Chisom also addressed the ongoing debate about whether skit makers qualify as real actors. While she has not faced direct bias, she believes not every content creator possesses the full range of acting skills. She emphasised that many of her skits draw from real-life experiences, which helps them connect with viewers.

Balancing her growing acting commitments with content creation remains a challenge, but she stays consistent whenever her schedule allows.

“Whenever I have time, I try to post something, just to stay connected with my audience.”

Real Soso’s story highlights a growing trend among young talents who use digital platforms to break traditional barriers in the entertainment industry. Her journey shows that strategic content creation can open doors that might otherwise remain closed, turning online visibility into real world opportunities.

As she continues to build her name both online and on film sets, Chisom’s experience serves as encouragement for aspiring entertainers looking for their own path into the industry.
