Nollywood has notched another major international achievement with the film Behind The Scenes emerging as the highest-grossing Nigerian title ever in the UK and Ireland. The movie, distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, pulled in £159,000 across the two markets while simultaneously dominating at home with N2.7 billion in domestic earnings.
The production explores the pressures of fame and the emotional toll behind public success. FilmOne Entertainment celebrated the performance as “a record-breaking run” and “a defining moment for African cinema,” highlighting its strong draw in multiple regions beyond West Africa.
This dual success highlights Nollywood’s growing global reach. While the domestic haul places it among the biggest Nigerian releases of recent years, the UK and Ireland figures set a new benchmark for the industry in those territories, surpassing previous Nollywood entries. The film’s ability to connect with international viewers points to increasing demand for authentic African storytelling in Western markets.
The achievement comes at a time when Nollywood continues to expand its footprint through strategic distribution and compelling storylines. Industry observers note that such results boost confidence in African films’ commercial potential overseas, paving the way for more ambitious projects, partnerships, and investment.
Behind The Scenes stands as a clear example of how Nigerian cinema can thrive both at home and on foreign screens, reinforcing the sector’s status as one of the world’s most productive and increasingly influential film industries.
