Celebrity bodyguard and actor Kelvin Atobiloye, popularly known as Kelvin Power, has broken his silence on the viral rumor that Nigerian singer Portable physically overpowered him in a wrestling match. In an exclusive interview with Punch Newspaper, Power dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated, revealing it was all part of a compensated promotional stunt.
The controversy traces back to a video that surfaced online in early 2024, depicting what appeared to be a heated confrontation between Power and Portable in a boxing ring. Fans and social media users quickly interpreted the footage as a genuine fight, with Portable seemingly emerging victorious after Power fell to the ground. The clip sparked widespread discussions, memes, and debates about Portable’s toughness versus Power’s imposing physique as a professional bodybuilder and security expert. Speculation ran wild, with some outlets suggesting it stemmed from a real beef or challenge gone wrong, in line with Portable’s reputation for dramatic public stunts.
Addressing the incident head-on, Power laughed off the misconceptions during his chat with Punch’s Naomi Chima. He explained, “It was an advert for a real estate company. People said Portable beat me (laughs). When he saw he was supposed to wrestle me, he refused and said I should fight Anthony Joshua instead. I fell and pretended he beat me. We were both paid.” This revelation underscores the scripted nature of the event, designed to generate buzz for the sponsoring brand rather than reflect any real conflict.
Beyond the clarification, Power shared insights into his multifaceted career. A law graduate from Ekiti State University, Power’s journey began with a passion for weightlifting sparked by childhood bullying in Ondo State. “That anger pushed me to the gym. I could train eight times a day,” he recounted. This dedication led to bodyguard roles for high-profile figures like musician Kizz Daniel and billionaire Mike Adenuga, where he honed skills in protection while handling risky situations like facing guns and knives. Recently branching into acting, Power starred in the film House of Gaa alongside stars like Odunlade Adekola and Funke Akindele, crediting his security background for authentic action scenes.
Power attributes his success to discipline, humility, and faith, noting a pivotal spiritual experience a decade ago that centered God in his life. Despite misconceptions that he’s a “gym monster” or unapproachable, Power describes himself as a “sweet guy” who values family and professionalism.
