Popular comedian Seyi Law has stirred fresh debate after declaring that Nigeria is safer today than it was 10 years ago.
He made the statement during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast while speaking with co-host Daddy Freeze about security and the economy.
When asked directly if the country is safer now than a decade ago, Seyi Law responded firmly:
“Nigeria is safer now than 10 years ago.”
The comedian credited the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for tackling insecurity more aggressively than past governments, including that of Goodluck Jonathan. He also questioned when Nigerians last experienced widespread bomb blasts across the country.
Seyi Law used the conversation to reaffirm his support for Tinubu’s leadership and economic reforms, describing them as necessary despite the hardship many citizens face.
However, the claim was challenged by activist Zekeri, who argued that insecurity remains serious in several regions. He pointed to continued attacks in the North East, rising kidnappings, and the killing of senior military officers, adding that many Nigerians now rely heavily on self-protection.
The discussion soon turned political, with Zekeri expressing support for Peter Obi of the Labour Party, describing him as a more accountable leader with finances that are “traceable down to every kobo.”
Seyi Law disagreed, insisting the economy is gradually improving under Tinubu, whom he said inherited major challenges but is working to stabilise the country.
The comedian has repeatedly spoken in support of government reforms, previously urging leaders to recognise citizens’ struggles while assuring them that long-term benefits will come. He has also taken an active political role, encouraging residents of Ondo State to support Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
His latest remarks continue to generate strong reactions online over security, governance, and the direction of the country.
