BBNaija Neo Threatens Lawsuit Over Rape Allegation

Former Big Brother Naija housemate Neo Akpofure has threatened legal action against a social media user over a rape allegation made against him on X (formerly Twitter).

Through his lawyers, the reality TV star demanded a public retraction and apology within 48 hours, warning that failure to comply would lead to a defamation lawsuit.

In a legal letter dated February 18, 2026, Neo’s solicitors described the allegation as “entirely false, malicious and defamatory.” They warned that legal proceedings would begin immediately if their demands are ignored.

The accusation, which has since been deleted from the user’s account, claimed Neo assaulted her after she confronted him about being in a relationship.

However, Neo’s legal team argued that the post itself acknowledged a prior consensual relationship before making the rape allegation.

“It is clear… you admitted that you and our Client were engaged in a casual, consensual sexual relationship… Notwithstanding this admission, you falsely accused our Client of rape,” the letter stated.

The lawyers said the claim portrays Neo “as a sexual offender and a criminal,” exposing him to public disgrace, reputational damage, emotional distress, and professional harm.

They also described the publication as “actionable libel under Nigerian law,” warning it could lead to serious civil and possible criminal consequences.

Neo’s legal team demanded, immediate deletion of the post everywhere it appeared, a clear public retraction stating the allegation is false, a public apology admitting the claim was “untrue, misleading, and injurious”, a written commitment not to make further defamatory statements

They concluded with a firm warning:

“Take notice that should you fail, refuse, or neglect to comply… we have our Client’s firm and irrevocable instructions to initiate all appropriate legal proceedings against you without further notice.”

The controversy emerged amid heightened public conversations around sexual assault online, with many social media users sharing personal experiences under trending advocacy hashtags.
