Afrobeats superstar Davido is facing heavy online backlash after mistakenly identifying gospel singer Tosin Bee as the son of a lawyer involved in his ongoing custody dispute.
The mix-up happened in the middle of intense legal drama between the singer and his estranged partner Sophia Momodu over the custody of their daughter, Imade Adeleke, at the Lagos State High Court.
During proceedings, reports say the singer lost patience with a lawyer representing Sophia. His frustration later spilled onto social media, where he launched a fierce attack.
“@Belachukwu, I disgraced you in the courtroom… You are a wicked human being. You are the worst lawyer ever. I beat you in court. You are not learned.”
He also expressed pain over references made to his late son, writing:
“I pray you never go through what me and my wife have gone through ever… and you were still smiling, smirking.”
Shortly after, Davido reposted a message from gospel artist Tosin Bee, apparently assuming he was related to the lawyer.
In the now-deleted post, he wrote:
“And she has a son… Tosin you will live long amen with the rubbish you dey sing… Useless people.”
The repost triggered immediate outrage online, with some users wrongly directing criticism at Tosin Bee, until the truth emerged.
The gospel singer quickly addressed the situation, clarifying that there was no connection whatsoever.
“Hello Mr David, I don’t know anything about the post you made… my mum went to be with the Lord eight years ago.” He added gently: “I guess this is a case of mistaken identity… my prayers are with you. I love you brother.”
His calm and compassionate response drew praise from many social media users.
The mistaken identity controversy has added another layer of drama to an already emotional custody battle, sparking debate online about public statements, social media reactions, and the pressure of personal disputes playing out in public view.
