Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has opened up about wealth in the movie industry, stating clearly that acting alone does not guarantee a luxurious lifestyle.
Speaking during a recent interview, the respected actress addressed frequent questions about why she does not appear as wealthy as some of her colleagues. According to her, the financial reality of the Nigerian film industry is far from what many people assume.
She pointed to low earnings from movie platforms and cinema deals as a major reason many actors are not as rich as the public believes.
“We hear stories of some actresses who do things with politicians for money. So when people ask me why I am not rich like the others, I tell them to go ask them what other jobs they do,” Akintola said.
The actress stressed that those who understand the industry know how modest movie pay can be.
“Because we know how much Africa Magic and other platforms pay for a movie.”
Akintola, who has built a strong career spanning decades, said there is often a disconnect between public perception and the real sources of wealth in the entertainment space. She suggested that fame does not always equal financial success, especially for actors who rely strictly on film roles.
Her comments have since sparked conversations online about the economics of Nollywood and the pressures placed on actors to maintain flashy lifestyles.
