Rising Nigerian singer Abimbola Oyewo, professionally known as Mediscene, and formerly Herbeembola, has kicked off 2026 on a powerful note with the release of her bold new single, “Omo Dudu (Black Beauty)”.
The song, which dropped on January 23, 2026, marks Mediscene’s first official release of the year and a clear statement of identity, confidence, and self-love.
More than a feel-good tune, Omo Dudu is a song of affirmation and pride, celebrating dark skin, African beauty, and owning one’s truth without apology.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Mediscene revealed that the song was born from a deeply personal experience.
“When people see you, one of the first things they notice is your complexion. I had an ex who used to call me Omo Dudu. I felt uncomfortable at first, but later I owned it”, she said.
She described the song as a moment of self-acceptance and rebirth.
“This song is a reintroduction of myself. Yes, I’m black, vibrant, bold, and beautiful.”
Mediscene revealed that Omo Dudu (Black Beauty) was written and recorded in an unusually short time, a process she described as natural and spiritually guided.
“It took me about two hours. I loved the beat, and the melodies just flowed”, she explained.
According to her, prayer plays a major role in her creative process.
“I have a ritual of praying before I write, and once I did, the lyrics came easily: about who I am, the vibe, the juice, and the belief that my name will be famous.”

The song was produced by Ihcego, Mediscene’s longtime friend — a producer, singer, and songwriter. With access to a home studio, the recording process was relaxed and organic; a setup made possible by the generosity of Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck, who equipped producer Ihcego with the tools that brought Omo Dudu to life.
“The studio sessions are usually easy. I literally stood up from my bed, did my workout, drank my tea, and recorded the song myself. It felt very natural”, she said.
From the moment the song was completed, Mediscene said she knew it carried something special.
“It’s such a positive song; full of faith and affirmations. You become what you say, and I truly believe I am a record breaker.”
Beyond the sound, the singer explained that Omo Dudu carries a deeper cultural meaning.
“Omo Dudu is me. I’m black and I love it. I’m tired of seeing people bleach or feel unseen because they’re dark-skinned.”
Expanding on the message behind the song, Mediscene also touched on the growing shift in beauty standards, especially online.
According to her, she has noticed more young women embracing their natural skin tone after years of trying to fit into lighter-skin ideals.
“I’ve seen some TikTok girlies revert back to their dark skin and they always look 10 times more beautiful, no shades to the fair people”, she said.
For the singer, Omo Dudu goes beyond complexion and speaks to identity and Africanness.
“Omo dudu can also mean being African”, Mediscene added.
She explained that the song is her way of encouraging young people to embrace who they are fully, without apology or comparison, stressing that confidence begins with self-acceptance.
Through the song, Mediscene delivers a direct message to listeners, especially dark-skinned girls and women, encouraging them to speak positivity into their lives.
“Open your mouth and tell yourself positive things. Let your ears hear it. There’s greatness inside you, speak it until you become it.”
With Omo Dudu (Black Beauty), Mediscene hopes to spark conversations rooted in hope, confidence, and joy, while reminding listeners that self-love begins from within.
The single is now available on all major streaming platforms.
