Mr Real Apologizes to D’banj, Following Court Order

Nigerian rapper Mr Real has publicly apologised to music legend D’banj following controversial remarks he made about the Creative, Reality, Entertainment, Arts and Music (CREAM) platform.

The apology comes after days of backlash and legal action sparked by Mr Real’s claim that the CREAM platform could not afford to offer him a ₦20 million ambassadorial deal, a statement that quickly went viral and drew heavy criticism within the music industry.

Following the comments, D’banj’s legal counsel, Pelumi Olajengbesi, filed a petition accusing the rapper of criminal defamation and requested a criminal summons against him.

A court subsequently ordered Mr Real to appear on January 19 and issued an injunction restraining him from making further public statements about D’banj while the case is ongoing.

In a video shared on Instagram, Mr Real admitted that his earlier remarks were based on a misunderstanding and took full responsibility for his actions.

“This video is an apology to my boss, D’banj. I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things concerning the CREAM platform, and I want to sincerely say I am very sorry,” he said.

The rapper went further to acknowledge D’banj’s influence on his personal growth and music career.

“D’banj, you have played a big role in my life and career. You are like a father and mentor to me. I am truly sorry, and I ask for your forgiveness.”

Mr Real confirmed that he has withdrawn his previous statements and will no longer comment publicly on the matter.

“I promise to comply with the legal process and give my full support and cooperation. I remain loyal to you,” he added.

He also stressed his commitment to resolving the issue privately and maintaining respect within the industry.

“I hold D’banj in the highest regard, and I am committed to doing better moving forward.”

D’banj’s CREAM platform has been actively involved in initiatives aimed at supporting Nigeria’s creative industry, including a partnership with the African Export-Import Bank to fund creative sector projects.
