AFCON: Davido, Peller Lose Big Bets on Eagles

Afrobeats superstar Davido has lost a $50,000 bet after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations following a dramatic penalty shootout defeat to Morocco on Wednesday night.

The semifinal clash ended goalless after regulation time, before the Atlas Lions triumphed 4–2 on penalties, crushing Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the final.

Hours before kickoff, Davido had confidently shared his bet slip online, revealing he placed $50,000 on Nigeria to win the encounter. The singer disclosed that he stood to earn a massive $348,000 payout if the Super Eagles progressed.

“Nigerians to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip,” Davido wrote while posting the betting ticket.

However, luck was not on his side as the match failed to produce a winner in open play and Nigeria eventually fell short in the shootout.

Unbothered by the loss, Davido later shared a photo of himself enjoying a plate of grilled fish as he prepared to leave Morocco, cheekily captioning it, “Perfect sign out.”

Also counting his losses is popular Nigerian TikToker Peller, who revealed during a livestream that he lost $3,000 after betting on Nigeria to beat Morocco within 90 minutes.

“Thank you Super Eagles for playing very well,” Peller said sarcastically. “I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match.”

Still venting his frustration, the influencer added, “Maybe, if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again.”

Despite the painful exit, many fans praised the Super Eagles for their resilience throughout the tournament, even as celebrity bettors nursed heavy losses from the semifinal heartbreak.
