Biodun Okeowo Laments Industry Silence Over New Film

Nollywood actress Biodun Okeowo has publicly called out her colleagues over what she described as a painful lack of support for her newly released movie, December Party.

In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, the actress expressed disappointment at the silence from many of her peers, despite her long history of supporting other filmmakers’ projects, including movies she did not feature in.

Biodun revealed that although she had not produced any film since 2013, she consistently promoted colleagues’ works, sometimes going as far as reaching out to producers directly in their DMs to ask for movies she could help publicise.

Now that she has returned to producing with her own project, the actress said the support she expected has been largely absent.

“I have posted a lot of movies that I didn’t even feature in. Even though I have not produced any movie since 2013, I have been supporting people to the extent that I went to the DMs of producers to send their movies to me to promote,” she said. “I have now produced my own movie, December Party, but no one is supporting me.”

Questioning what she may have done wrong, Biodun wondered if she had offended people within the industry or if she was being deliberately ignored. According to her, only a handful of colleagues showed up for her, a number she said she could easily count.

Describing the situation as hurtful, the actress did not mince words as she addressed her colleagues directly.

“What is my offence to you all? Am I that bad? Only a few of my colleagues, whom I can count, supported me,” she said. “It is when bad things happen to people that you post. You are w!cked.”

Biodun, however, clarified that her frustration was not about entitlement but about professional courtesy and collective growth within the industry.

“Favour is selective and personal. What I am talking about is support, which is intentional, professional, and rooted in collective growth,” she explained. “We are useful to ourselves alive… then let’s support ourselves while we are still living.”

Despite the disappointment, the actress expressed deep gratitude to those who stood by her during the project’s release.

“To everyone I asked for support and who supported me, both within the industry and beyond it, thank you. Your encouragement, shares, prayers, and love carried this journey. I do not take any of it for granted,” she said.

She also reminded fans that December Party is still trending on her YouTube channel, urging viewers to watch and subscribe.

“December Party is still trending on my YouTube. Kindly subscribe and watch. God bless you all.”

Just hours before the video, Biodun had also criticised two categories of industry players; actors who feature in films but disappear when it is time to promote them, and colleagues she described as extremely stingy with support.

Her outburst has since sparked conversations online about loyalty, support, and collaboration within Nollywood.
