Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has responded firmly after facing criticism for publicly commending officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) for their dedication during the festive season.
The award-winning vocalist had taken to social media to praise the officers, noting that they had been working tirelessly throughout December to manage traffic across Lagos.
“@followlastma officers una wehdone.. these guys have been working all round the clock this December,” Dakolo wrote.
However, his comment sparked backlash from a social media user identified as Marshmallow, who dismissed the praise as unnecessary.
“No offense but I hate when we do this thing. It’s like clapping for a fish for swimming,” the user wrote while quoting Dakolo’s post.
The remark did not sit well with the singer, who responded sharply, calling out the critic and defending the importance of appreciating people who do demanding jobs.
“Shut up your stupid mouth. Do you work round the clock? Do you know how hard it is? Applaud people when they do an amazing job,” Dakolo fired back.
The exchange quickly gained traction online, with many users siding with Dakolo and agreeing that workers who show commitment, especially under difficult conditions deserve recognition.
The singer, known for his outspoken views on social issues, has often used his platform to highlight the value of hard work and accountability, both from individuals and public institutions.
