World-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road accident on Monday in Makun, Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses said the crash occurred shortly after 11 a.m. along a busy stretch of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, near Danco Filling Station in Makun, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound lane.

Joshua was travelling in a Lexus SUV with registration number KRD 850 HN when the vehicle reportedly collided with a stationary truck. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

A reporter who witnessed the incident told PUNCH Online that Joshua sustained minor injuries, while two occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.

According to eyewitness Adeniyi Orojo, the convoy consisted of two vehicles — a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV carrying Joshua’s security team. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another passenger beside him. There was also a passenger seated next to the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus at the time of the crash.

“Other eyewitnesses and I immediately began rescue efforts and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist,” Orojo said. “Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived a few minutes later. Sadly, the passenger beside the driver and the person seated next to Joshua died at the scene.”

Fans have since taken to social media to express concern, as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Efforts to reach the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) Commandant, Akinbiyi Babatunde, were unsuccessful. However, the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, later confirmed the crash.

In a brief statement, Babaseyi said, “Two people died, while Anthony Joshua and one other person were taken to hospital and are receiving treatment. Further details will be communicated.”

More updates on Joshua’s condition are expected.
