Popular TikTok content creator and livestreamer Hamzat Habeeb, widely known as Peller, has sparked widespread outrage and public concern after crashing his car during a live broadcast on the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos.
The disturbing incident happened on Sunday during an Instagram livestream titled “RIP Peller,” which has since gone viral across social media platforms.
In the video, Peller was seen driving alone in his newly acquired Mercedes-Benz, visibly emotional and mentally distressed. Throughout the livestream, the influencer appeared unstable, crying and speaking emotionally during a phone conversation believed to be with his girlfriend, Jarvis, amid rumours of a breakup.
As the livestream progressed, Peller made several alarming statements that immediately unsettled viewers.
At one point, he said:
“I will use this car and have an accident right now.”
Moments later, his fear became evident as he added:
“I’m scared. I’m scared.”
The situation took a darker turn when the content creator, still live on camera, broke down while speaking about public perception and ridicule, saying:
“If you break up with me, people will be mocking me, they will be mocking me… Thank you, I’m going to kill myself.”
Shortly after making the statement, Peller was seen driving into another part of the road before ramming the car into a stone, causing a crash that ended the livestream abruptly.
Another video that later surfaced online showed Peller being helped by bystanders at the scene of the crash before he was eventually taken to a hospital.
Photos shared online revealed that the Mercedes-Benz sustained significant damage, further intensifying public concern over the incident.
The incident has sparked intense reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing fear, anger, and disappointment.
Several users called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and relevant authorities to investigate the incident, stressing that Peller’s actions endangered not only his life but also other road users on the busy expressway.
While a section of viewers claimed the crash may have been staged for content, many others rejected that argument, insisting that regardless of intent, such behaviour during a livestream was reckless and unacceptable.
Others demanded stricter regulations around dangerous livestreaming practices, especially when public safety is at risk.
As of press time, Peller has not released any official statement addressing the crash, his mental state during the livestream, or the public backlash that followed.
Authorities are also yet to confirm whether an investigation has been launched.
