Social media critic Daniel Regha has taken a swipe at reality star and influencer Tacha Akide following her comments on the trending debate about who should pay for meals on a first date.
The conversation erupted online earlier this week after a woman publicly called out a man who took her number but declined to pay for her food during their first outing. The situation sparked widespread arguments on X, with many debating etiquette, expectations, and gender roles.
Tacha entered the conversation, firmly siding with the woman. She argued that a man should be willing and able to cover the bill when meeting a lady for the first time. To drive her point home, she drew comparisons to animal behaviour, suggesting that in many species, males typically hunt and provide.
Her take didn’t sit well with Regha. Responding directly to Tacha’s analogy, he countered that the animal kingdom is far more complex than she implied. Regha noted that many male species mate and immediately abandon the female, leaving her to raise the young alone. He added that some female animals even do the chasing and impressing.
Regha delivered the final jab in his usual blunt manner:
“A lot of male species in the animal kingdom also abandon the female after mating, leaving the responsibility of raising the newborns to the female. Should men ‘clock it’ too? And just so you know, not all females in the animal kingdom wait to be impressed, some do the chasing to impress the male. But I guess you don’t know that since you barely watch NatGeo Wild. Stick to makeup, sis, intellectual conversations is beyond u. No offense.”
His comments have since triggered heated reactions across social media, with users split between defending Tacha and supporting Regha’s criticism.
