Boluwatife Balogun, popularly known as Champz and the first son of Afrobeats superstar Wizkid, has shared fresh insight into his passion for music and how he is building his own place in the industry, without the weight of his father’s global success hanging over him.
The 14-year-old spoke during a sit-down with Glitch Africa, where he revealed that music came naturally to him because of the environment he grew up in.
“Music has always been around me. My dad is in the industry, some of my friends make music, and my cousin plays the piano. I’ve been creating beats and writing songs since I was little”, he said.
Despite being the son of one of Africa’s biggest musical exports, Boluwatife insists he doesn’t feel pressured to live up to Wizkid’s accomplishments.
“There’s no pressure. I’m just 14, so I have plenty of time to grow. I’ve already achieved a lot for my age, so I’m taking it step by step”, he explained confidently.
Champz, whose debut project Champion’s Arrival has continued to draw attention and break early records, added that he is focused on Afrofusion and rap as his main genres.
A video of him speaking passionately about his journey has since gone viral, earning praise across social media.
