I’ve Never Experienced Joy in Marriage — Sola Allyson Reveals She Lives Separately From Husband

Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has stirred emotions across social media after opening up about the real state of her marriage, one she says has never brought her the joy many imagine.

Speaking with honesty and vulnerability on the Oyinmomo Podcast, the Eji Owuro crooner revealed that while she is still legally married, she and her husband, Toyin Obaniyi, no longer share the same home.

In her words:

“I must confess that I am married, but my husband and I decided to live apart; he in his house and I in mine.”

The singer, who married Obaniyi in 2003 and shares three children with him, clarified that their decision to live separately wasn’t fueled by bitterness or conflict but a mutual and peaceful choice.

But the most shocking part of her revelation came when she admitted that marriage, for her, has never been the bliss many couples speak of.

Allyson said:

“Marriage has been a big challenge. I hear people talk about joy in marriage, but I have never experienced it.”

Despite her difficult journey, Allyson insisted she holds no grudges against love. In fact, she described herself as someone capable of giving deeply, as long as she is treated with respect.

She explained:

“I can do anything for a man as long as he does not maltreat me.”

Her honesty has sparked widespread conversation among fans and social media users, with reactions ranging from empathy to critique.

@the_thicklady said, “She is right. We need to abolish that stupid term ‘husband house.’ There are some terms we use as women that put us in bondage. How would you say you are in your husband’s house? What is that even supposed to mean? Are you a child with no agency?” @TheosophiaQueen noted, “She is so full of wisdom. I can see why I am so connected to her. Her views about life, relationships, and religion are so on point. She said ‘mi o si ni ile-oko but mo ti fe oko. O wa ni ile e, mo wa ni ile mi.’ It’s so deep.”

@oluobamzy added, “I went to listen to the full interview and was surprised at the wisdom she unpacked. Self-discovery is a very powerful tool that brings you into a world of control and influence.” @kolawoleolowo1 said, “I knew this lady wasn’t a gospel artist a long time ago. She wants to be accepted on all sides. All the ‘Eledumare’, ‘Oluwa’, ‘Aseda’ etc instead of calling Jesus… I knew it was a subterfuge. A total fake. I wish her well though.”
