Nigeria’s political and entertainment circles were thrown into chaos on Thursday after a disturbing video alleging a plot to assassinate actress Regina Daniels went viral, triggering a swift and forceful response from her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko.
The viral clip shared widely across social media claimed the billionaire politician allegedly offered ₦5 million each to unnamed accomplices to have Regina Daniels killed. Though unverified, the claim sharply escalated the already strained and public breakdown of the couple’s marriage.
Within hours, Senator Nwoko issued a strongly-worded statement condemning what he described as a renewed, coordinated campaign of cyber harassment and criminal defamation. The lawmaker insisted he would not allow “fabricated drama” to be weaponised against him.
A statement posted on his official X handle read in part:
“Our attention has been drawn to renewed pattern of online harassment, cyber stalking and coordinated defamatory videos and publications targeted at Sen. Ned Nwoko. These actions appear calculated to create a false narrative of persecution in order to serve ulterior motives.”
According to the statement, Nwoko maintains that he is “fully engaged in his legislative, developmental and business responsibilities and maintains no interest whatsoever in online distractions or fabricated drama.”
However, he stressed that the gravity of the new allegations demands legal intervention rather than social media theatrics.
“When grave allegations are made, they must be addressed in accordance with the law, not through misinformation or emotional manipulation.”
He also warned Nigerians against normalising sensational falsehoods:
“Today, falsehood may be deployed against one individual; tomorrow, it may be directed at anyone.”
Following the online storm, Nwoko has instructed his lawyers to file formal petitions with the Inspector General of Police, Director General of the DSS, and the Commissioner of Police (Cybercrime Unit). The aim: to unmask and prosecute those behind the “ongoing cyber harassment and criminal defamation.”
“The relevant digital footprints will be traced and lawful action will be pursued.”
The statement also extended a diplomatic caution to foreign governments:
“The United States Government and the United Kingdom are respectfully urged to note that attempts to stage artificial drama around a stable family structure for the purpose of gaining undue advantage are unacceptable. If any frivolous grounds are being put forward to seek asylum, such manoeuvres should be discountenanced.”
The camp further urged the public and authorities to rely on verifiable facts rather than emotionally charged online narratives.
“Authorities are encouraged to rely on verified facts and legal processes rather than sensationalised narratives designed to mislead.”
This latest twist is the most explosive chapter yet in a marital saga that has dominated headlines for months. With allegations, counter-allegations, family disputes and now an alleged assassination plot claim spiraling across social media, the Nwoko; Regina Daniels drama shows no sign of cooling.
